ALGISITE Ag Calcium Alginate Wound Dressing with Silver
The combination of Alginate and Silver | Antimicrobial, Strong Absorption, Cost-saving
ALGISITE Ag is a sterile, non-woven, calcium alginate wound dressing impregnated with silver. In contact with wound exudate, the fibers swell and form a sodium calcium alginate gel.
This gel:
- Provides a moist wound environment
- Adapts to the contours of the wound
- Is air and water vapor permeable
- Can be easily removed in one piece with the help of a physiological saline solution
- Pulls bacteria away from the wound together with the wound fluid
- Is impregnated with silver, which kills a wide spectrum of wound bacteria
Benefits of ALGISITE Ag
- Highly absorbent
- Creates a moist wound environment for optimum wound healing
- Antimicrobial effect against a wide spectrum of wound bacteria
- Has an antimicrobial effect of 7 days
- Cost effective
Effect of Silver on Bacteria
- breaks down proteins and enzymes
- changes the DNA
- destroys the cell membrane
Indications
ALGISITE Ag dressings are intended for use in wounds where there is a moderate to heavy level of exudate such as pressure sores, post-operative wounds, partial thickness and full thickness wounds, arterial, venous and diabetic leg ulcers, pressure sores, post-operative wounds and fungating lesions.
May be used on wounds which are infected or are likely to become infected.
Contra-indications
- Do not use on patients with known sensitivity to ALGISITE Ag or any of its components.
- Do not use on patients undergoing Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) examination.
In vitro studies show that ALGISITE Ag, compared to corresponding products, faster and therefore more effectively kills bacteria.
Application
Clean the wound according to the usual procedure. Choose a compress that is slightly larger than the wound and place it directly on the wound (the compress within the wound edges apply). The cord is used for deep or cavitary wounds variant of ALGISITE Ag recommended.
Cover with an absorbent compress (eg MELOLIN or ALLEVYN and / or OPSITE ). The frequency of dressing change depends on the type and condition of the wound. In the At the beginning it may be necessary when there is much exudate produced, to replace the compress daily. As the healing progresses, the compress can last longer in situ stay.
Remove the compress
To remove ALGISITE Ag, use tweezers or sterile gloves and gently remove the dressing from the wound take. ALGISITE Ag retains its integrity, even soaked, and can be removed in one piece. Upon dehydration of flush the wound with a physiological dressing saline solution to facilitate removal.
