Avanos 2270135 Ballard* Turbo CS Adult, 14 FR, T-Piece

BALLARD* Turbo-Cleaning Closed Suction System have advanced infection control features that redefine the standard of care for closed suctioning. BALLARD* Turbo-Cleaning catheter is the only catheter that retracts within a unique, isolated, turbulent cleaning chamber. The turbulent cleaning action results in an 89% cleaner catheter tip compared to a standard closed suction system. This reduced colonization may help reduce risk of VAP in your ventilated patients.

Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is the most common and deadly healthcare-associated infection, affecting up to 28% of ventilated patients.

The BALLARD* Turbo-Cleaning Closed Suction System retracts with a unique and isolated turbulent cleaning chamber, making it the only catheter proven to reduce bacterial load on the catheter tip by 89% in a 72-hour period.2 The presence of such a valve should be considered essential in preserving lung volumes and uninterrupted ventilation in mechanically ventilated patients.

Avanos 2270135 Ballard* Turbo CS Adult, 14 FR, T-Piece Features

  • Sealed by our patented PEEP seal technology
  • One-way lavage port designed to prevent sprayback
  • Hinged valve isolates catheter tip and helps prevent inadvertent lavage
  • Turbulent cleaning chamber creates cleansing action, resulting in a cleaner catheter
  • PEEP seal helps reduce PEEP loss and inadvertent lavage
  • Integrated MDI Port (Optional)

Avanos 2270135 Ballard* Turbo CS Adult, 14 FR, T-Piece Features Include

  • Patented PEEP seal technology helps reduce PEEP loss and helps prevent inadvertent lavage
  • One-way lavage port prevents splash-back, which reduces the risk of cross-contamination
  • Dynamic valve technology allows for normal ventilation during catheter cleaning

Avanos 2270135 BALLARD* Turbo-Cleaning Closed Suction System Reduces:

  • The risk of contamination from outside pathogens4
  • Colonization within the circuit4
  • ICU days and associated costs5
  • Potential exposure to bodily fluids

Manipulation of The Ventilator Circuit Can Increase Cross-Contamination - A Leading Cause of VAP

  • Ventilator-associated pneumonia (VAP) is the most common and deadly healthcare-associated infection, affecting up to 28% of ventilated patients. To help protect patients, a closed ventilator circuit is recognised as a best practice in the prevention of VAP
  • Maintaining a closed ventilator circuit is recommended by the American Association for Respiratory Care (AARC)
  • A closed circuit maintains ventilation and oxygen therapy throughout suctioning, and prevents approximately 50% of the lung volume fall observed when suctioning after disconnection from the ventilator
  • Closed suctioning is a best practice that protects patients and caregivers
    • Reduces the risk for contamination from outside pathogens
    • Reduces colonisation within the circuit5
    • Designed to protect caregivers from exposure to body fluids

Avanos Ballard* Turbo CS Adult, 14 FR, T-Piece 2270135 Instructions for Use

Avanos 2270135 Ballard* Turbo CS Adult, 14 FR, T-Piece Instruction of Use

Setup:

  1. Select appropriate size Avanos 2270135 BALLARD* Turbo-Cleaning catheter.
  2. Attach thumb control valve to suction tubing.
  3. Depress and hold thumb valve and simultaneously adjust vacuum regulator to desired level.
  4. Release thumb control valve and attach Avanos BALLARD* catheter between patient and the ventilator circuit.

Suggested Suction Procedure:

  1. Stabilize Avanos BALLARD* catheter and endotracheal (ET) adapter with one hand then push the catheter into the endotracheal tube with the thumb and forefinger of the opposite hand (Fig. 1).
  2. Advance catheter to desired depth.
  3. Depress and hold thumb control valve, then gently withdraw catheter. Stop withdrawal when black marking ring is visible inside sleeve (Fig. 2).
  4. Release thumb control valve.
  5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 above as necessary.

Patient Lavage Instructions:

  1. For intubated patient, advance catheter 10-13 cm (4-5 inches) into the endotracheal tube. For tracheostomy patient, advance the catheter 3-4 cm (1.5-2 inches) into the tracheostomy tube.
  2. Instill desired amount of fluid into the lavage port.
  3. Advance catheter to desired depth and follow the above suggested suction procedure.

Catheter Irrigation Instructions:

  1. Be sure that the black ring is visible inside the sleeve (Fig. 2). Open cap on the irrigation port.
  2. Insert saline vial (REF 116 or REF 117) into irrigation port.
  3. Intermittently depress and release thumb valve (Fig. 6) until the catheter and chamber are clear (Fig. 5), or until the vial is empty.
  4. Lift and turn the thumb valve lock. Control Depth Suction

(Catheters printed with numerical markings only):

  1. Align any printed depth number on the catheter with the similar number printed on the endotracheal tube, or observe the printed number on the endotracheal tube closest to the endotracheal tube adapter.
  2. Add 6 cm to this number.
  3. Advance catheter until the sum (depth plus 6) appears in the window directly across from irrigation port connector.
  4. Catheter tip will be within 1 cm of the end of the artificial airway.

Control Depth Suction:

  1. Follow all the steps above except steps 2 and 3; add 8 to the number.

Thumb Control Valve Operation:

  1. The thumb control valve can be locked to prevent inadvertent or accidental suction. To lock, lift white part of thumb control valve and rotate 180 degrees. To unlock, repeat this action (Fig. 4).

Day Sticker Usage:

  1. Avanos BALLARD* Turbo-Cleaning catheter may be used for no more than 72 hours. All other Avanos BALLARD* closed suction catheters are to be used for no more than 24 hours only.
  2. Apply the appropriate day sticker to the thumb control valve.
Example: If Avanos BALLARD* Turbo-Cleaning catheter is opened on Monday, place the Thursday sticker on the thumb control valve. For any other REF, place the Tuesday day sticker on the thumb valve.
